Palanquin Bearers

This is a small poem written by Sarojini Naidu.
It is about a bride who is leaving her parents, and going to her husbands house,
in a palanquin, and the whole poem is about the palanquin bearers song ( which they sing for entertainment )

This culture is used a lot in the north of India ( Gujarat, Bengal, etc.)

Few times the bride would die on the way.

The rhyme scheme of the poem is constant ( a,a b,b c,c a,a b,b c,c)
The tone of the poem is Enthusiastic, and admiring.
The Mood of the poem is mostly in mixed emotions (shes happy about going to a new house, and sad about leaving her parents)

There are many figures of speech in the poem. A few are : Simile, Imagery, Repetition,Metaphor, and Exaggeration.

In the beginning of the poem the bearers have to bear the pain of the palanquin , as well as the humiliation of carrying a woman.

Towards the ending of the poem, the bearers feel honored to carry the women.

Her emotions are very delicate and sway from time to time.

She is very light and bounces a lot in the palanquin.

And in the ending the bearers also have mixed emotions(spread from the bride).

My Favoutire Subject

My favorite subject is math,
I can keep solving till i grow fat.
It is exceptionally hard,
But i always get help from my lord.

It is extremely fun,
I like it a ton!
Give me a problem,
I'll get it done.

I am good at memorizing,
When I complete a given problem it is satisfying.
My favorite subject is math,
If it is taken out, FEEL MY WRATH!

Robinson Crusoe

                                            Robinson Crusoe

Robinson Crusoe  is a fine man with magnificent qualities:
                        Physical appearance

1) Crusoe is a British by birth (so he is red faced)
2) He was fair as a city boy, but became tanned when he was shipwrecked on the island.
3) He is tall and has muddy brown hair, and whiskers.
4) He is not very clean as his surroundings, house, etc. are not exactly clean.
5) He has rough palms from all the labor he did on the island.

                                               Characteristics

1) Stubborn: when John's father tells him to quit sailing he refuses.
2) Creative: On the island he makes a lot of different kinds of items which he uses wisely.
3) Bossy: When he was a slave he used the word "subjects" when referring to Xury and Ishmael.
4) Brave: On the island he was brave enough to explore the island.
5) Discriminating: The name he gives to the tribal person he rescue's is "Friday". But if he rescued an English man, then he would have given a better name.
6) Risk Taker: He leaves his parents to lead a sailors life, which is risky.

                      Problem solving

Crusoe deals with problems well, but sometimes he makes foolish decisions:

1) I feel he should not have left his home, or at least say goodbye to them.
2) He should've returned home after he got a second chance, but his ambition overwhelmed him.
3) He traded wisely (with the help of Culpeper), and did not trade at places he would not get profits in, soon he had a small found fortune.

4) When he was leading a plantation life, he should've just settled there instead of going back on a voyage.
5) When he was on the island, he was smart to make the fire in the cave, so that the natives would not see the smoke.
6) When the animals and birds starting eating his crops on the island, he thought of a clever way to get rid of them. (for the birds he put feathers all around his mini farm, and for animals (mostly hares) he built a wall around his farm)
7) When he started getting bored of the island, he constructed a raft and left the island once and for all!
